Oil cooler diagrams

Post by SpaceKook » Fri Aug 08, 2025 5:38 pm

Hi all,

I'm looking for the diagrams of the oil cooler setup please.
I have found several versions but it's not clear which is for which model of LR.

Places I've checked are the 1968 handbook, 1970 parts 2a catalogue, the 1993 s3 parts catalogue, a quick google, and a general search of this forum.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

I've found a better version which covers more parts and and includes the ones marked NLS in the other diagram.
Does anybody recognise this page layout/font etc. and know where it's from, please?

That looks to be an ammendment page which would be added to an original parts list. The font does look to be similar to the one used on earlier LR parts lists. I have had a look at various lists/books at work, but haven't come across that particular image.

Not a problem. It was a bit busy today, but I'll try to have another look as and when I can. I need to try and find find the SII parts book anyway, as it wasn't on the shelf with the rest.

I was looking for oil cooler parts the other day and found that the parts diagrams were in the optional parts catalogue - hope that helps!

Cheers Stuey, looks like there's as many variations as there are colours in the rainbow :)
I've got the parts list from the rover 1 1970 manual and I'm matching it to the 65, 73, and 84 optional manuals as best as I can.
From what I can tell it's all mostly compatible, fingers crossed!

Morning all,

I've got two diagrams which may (or may not!) help.

Cheers,

Chris

Spot the difference: - ^^^^

From the diagrams it is clear the systems had been reversed between S2a & S3.

S2a pipework runs from the oil pump on the right to the top of the cooler on the left. Then bottom of the cooler on the right to the sump on the right.
S3 pipework runs from the oil pump on the right to the bottom of the cooler on the right. Then top of the cooler on the left to the sump on the left.
This makes the S2a sump different from the S3 too.

Spot the mistake: - ^^^^

S3 diagram assembly 624094 appears to show the non-return valve the wrong way round - bound to cause confusion.
