In order to replace the No2 outrigger i have taken apart the panels behind the drivers seat where the Generator panel , starter relay and 24volt dropper is housed . The 24 volt dropper relay is the one on the right with no wires attached . The PO had run a seperate feed to a facet pump . The original wiring is still there so if the relay does not work it will be replaced . Corrosion to the alloy inner wheel arch shield has allowed water to get into this area and rusted through part of the steel box section . This will have to be cut out treated and replaced . The alloy panel will either be replaced or repaired depending how bad it is after being removed . After removing all the " Bling " fitted behind the seat panel i am left with many holes that will need sorting .

One thing about being in dairy farming is that we buy and use phosphoric acid in 200 litre barrels so after removing several kg of thick waxoil with an air chisel i have then been painting the chassis with the acid and the results so far look very promising .There are still many hours of cleaning and treating to go yet ! The acid will be rinsed off before priming and painting begins .

Really pleased to see your 101 on the forum!

Looks like you have made significant progress with the chassis since I visited. From memory, I seem to recall several 101s that I had the privilege to use in service were painted in gloss bronze green inside with disruptive pattern IRR on the exterior. Therefore, I believe your idea to finish your interior in bronze green is very much in keeping with their in-service life.

I have found the Italian LWT book that you very kindly loaned to me to be very helpful; so much so, that my good wife has ordered me a copy from Italy for my 60th birthday! I will return your copy very soon.

Looking forward to your continued updates on the 101.

Two coats of Raptor on fuel tank and chassis. No2 outrigger replaced along with B pillar .Splash plates not available either as old stock or after market so had five pairs fabricated by my local fabricators .Put four pairs on the 101 facebook page for sale and sold them all within six hours . Due to weather and low temperatures painting has been slow despite working in a heated garage .Drove to Holland last weekend to pick up a complete Nokken winch that came with a box full of replacement bearings.The seller was an interesting chap with a 101 GS and a restored 101 Radio body complete with Nokken winch . He was secretary of the Dutch 101 club and told me that there was about a 100 101s in Holland .The trip to and from Holland was interesting in the snow in the BMW but the heavy weight of the winch helped with the traction on the way home.Have put most of the winch brackets etc in the acid bath and will paint strip the main body . If you think lightweight parts are getting expensive try looking at some of the 101 parts . Exhaust manifolds were unique to the 101 and fetch £350 a side second hand ! Michelin XZL are between £300 /£400 a tyre !
