Well i thought i would post a quick up date on the 101 . Picked it up from the transporter at Westbury auctions and towed it home behind the wolf that pulled like a train . To avoid the big hills around Shaftesbury i turned off at the Deverils and went through Maiden Bradley and Gillingham. The 101 had been fitted out as a command vehicle before it was sold in 2008 and was a mixture of clansman and larkspur with a 320 that had been converted to a CB radio . There were 12 sets of intercoms and headsets installed along with a larkspur R210 and other civillian CB and radios .Underneath the rear wheel arches and between the chassis was mounted four 7000rpm fans piped into the rear body that i think the PO would plug gas marks into . The nokken winch underneath had been removed to install the 120 litre LPG tank .To run all the extras that had been installed i found five 12volt batteries wired in plus a 240volt inlet with a 415volt fuse holder containing a 120 amp fuse.I soon made the descision to ditch all this extra equipment and bodge wiring and return it to its original 24volt Rapier launcher spec with winch as per B card.Removed and sold the LPG have located two complete winches for sale one in Holland and one over here so just sorting out a price . Normally they go between £1000 to £2000 a piece .All the extra wiring and radios have been removed plus the 27 foot larkspur mast . Managed to swap five headset and intercoms for a original 101 steering wheel, a set of 101 rain gutters above doors. Spare wheel bracket ,clamp and strap. Also the extra hoop supports if i wanted to fit it out as a FFR vehicle.

The truck is in excellant condition for its age with the original doors and door tops being Rot free and only requiring a channel refurb kit at £16 a side to make good . I took the original fuel tank off to clean out and examine as the truck had been stored for nine years .I found plenty of rusty sludge insideand the original in tank pump was dead and the outlet pipe had a corroded hole in it. After steam cleaning the inside of the tank i found that one of the seams had been sealed at some time probably due to an impact dent on the outside.The tank now leaked again so the descision was do i spend £100 plus on tank sealer to do a tank this size or £410 plus vat on a new stainless steel one . 101 parts were phoned and the new tank and in tank pump arrived within days. To remove the old tank it was easier to drill the rivets in the panel around the fuel filler and remove along with fuel filler pipe that was also perished and will be replaced with a new one at £38. Below the fuel filling panel the PO had cut a square hole for the 240 volt socket . I will remove this panel as well and re fabricate.To make life easier for fitting the new tank plus installing the Nokken winch i removed the rear tub which is only held on with 10 bolts , one earth strap and unplugging two wires to the rear number plate.The tub was lifted off with the jcb and put on to my trailer and sheeted . Four people could lift off a tub quite easily. With the tub off i descided to put the 101 in the heated garage to work on as the farm workshop too cold and damp this time of year. So the wifes MX5 was evicted yet again ! Doors, windscreen and hoop removed from 101 and in she went.First job is too remove all waxoil etc on chassis back to the bare metal , treat all the surface rust and then paint with por15 before fitting new tank and winch so let the fun begin !

The number 2 outrigger after removing the waxoil and rust has a small hole in it so rather than messing about cutting and welding in patches a replacement has been purchased at £47 so will be replaced . The rest of the outriggers look okay as does the rear cross member . In the last picture highlighted is two oil pipes that come out the engine low down either side near the engine mounting brackets and into this alloy housing mounted inside the chassis , Does anyone know what this is for as i cannot find it in the manual ?

Looks like a solid project, and one that you should be able to get up and running pretty quickly. There's a lot to be said for a rolling resto where it is possible. You'll have so much fun in that 101 - I hope you'll be bringing it to a show soon
