Hi, On my 1976 Lightweight the RH Half shaft decided it had had enough.
Taking it out is seems to be from a standard S3 with the threaded end and castellated nut. 10 spline. the Flange has the cap not the flat plate.
my question is there any point in going back to the original half shaft new flange (both sides) . flat plate etc or stick with whats on there.
is there any engineering advantage of the old version?

Re: Rear Half shafts.
Hi Simon
Happy to be corrected but as far as I recall from reading the books, the flat ended ones were in the original design to shave off width to get them in the aircraft. Later ones like mine (post-1980 I think) they rationalised out some of the LWT-specific features including the flat-ended halfshafts as they were no longer needed and to save cost. So I'd say your choice would purely be about aesthetics and originality unless of course you were planning to squeeze it in an Argosy two abreast with another LWT.
Cheers

Re: Rear Half shafts.
Thanks Steve,
ordered the same parts rather than change them on both sides.
