Lightweight series 2a 1968

Hello everyone. I've been working on my land rover lightweight series 2a 1968 for the past few months now. It had been in a field for 30 years. Surprisingly enough the chassis was fine and I got the engine running up in no time, and now turns on the button. However I'm quite stuck and need the help of someone with a series 2a or alot of knowledge about it. As the panels were all mostly take off the 4x4 bar the hood (which doesn't take a genius to know how to fit) when I rescued it. Now. My question is this: can anybody please help me with the arrangements of the seat box? I seem to have 3 panels all of different sizes and I can't seem to understand how they fit together. If a kind soul could help me out and maybe provide a picture of there seat box preferably without the cushions I would be very greatfull.

Welcome to the forum Jake.

I'm sure someone with a 2a will be along soon and will have pics to hand. Also an illustrated parts catalogue is a worthwhile investment if you can get one as it has exploded diagrams of a lot of the assemblies. Very useful for those where-does-that-bit-go moments.

Hi Jake,
I have a December 1968 2A LWT which is currently stripped down to a rolling chassis and I'm about to start the body build up. Where are you based?
I'm based in Wiltshire. I took a lot of photos during the strip down of this and other similar vehicles, so happy to help.

To add...
The 2A LWT seat bases were fixed to the seatbox cover plates, so they came out as one assembly. That might clarify things?

Hey guys, thanks for the help and replies! I've got some pictures of the seatbox which hasn't been touched yet. This is how it still is now. As you can see I have a larger panel covering the drivers seat side. As I am no expert, i wanted to clear up any doubts over it so that I may keep the lightweight as original as possible. The 4x4 had quite a few pieces maybe missing or still under some growth in the field it came from but all large parts and 1 antenna has been found . So anyway if someone could kindly provide me with a picture of their seat box internal arrangement and the drivers panel cover I'd be very thankful.

Welcome to the forum.

The seatbox lids on the SIIA and the earlier SIII are the same, and bolt to the seat squab to secure it down. They are available from various suppliers if so required. Part No's 346038, 346039 for the outers and 335553 for the centre panel.

This link below shows how the bare seatbox should look, and shows where the two panels in your last pic and the U channel section in your second post should be fitted. (You can't see in your pics if the left side panels are fitted or not. But, one side may have been removed to use as a template to make the other side's panel.)

Re the link there - the cushions/squabs on my '68 Lightweight are original very basic versions and thin. No angle to the base and no ply base board.
Rather tatty, being cracked with age, but I used an old industrial Singer machine to made some covers out of army canvas.
