Stu's Tdi project

Post by StuWright » Thu Feb 25, 2016 8:24 am

In 2008 I bought a Lwt which looked in far better condition than it was and after a brief spell on the road I decided to start working on it. Originally thinking of fixing the immediate problems and the a better paint job. Being a bit of a twitcher I have ended up stripping the whole thing to every last nut and bolt.

So far I have got the following ready for my rebuild:

Richards galvy chassis, parabolics, gas shocks, rebuilt military axle, Ashcroft suffix D series gearbox with high ratio transfer box, new doors, new wiring loom, Ashtree galvy bulkhead, vent panel and windscreen frame.

I have a fully built 200Tdi engine from Turner Engineering and all new ancillaries to go back on except the fuel injection pump & injectors which are currently being reconditioned by Watkins Diesel.

Bodywork is having a complete overhaul as well. Mine was a typical bodge up with a series tailgate and 2a wings which for a 2a set up look wrong due to square corners. I have managed to get a new pair and bonnet shipped from Cyprus off a stored Lwt with 4K on the clock. Currently most body parts are down at the spray shop.

My rear tub was a state underneath so I decided to rebuilt it. I drilled out the rivets, cut the spot welds and took it back to every component part. I have since had a fabricators make each part new and I have to now work out how to fit it all back together. :?

Lots to do but I'm working on it all day Saturday's until it's done now.
Thanks

Stu

Hi Stu,

Sounds like you are going to have a superb LWT when you put all the new/reconditioned/rebuilt parts back together.

It’s seems so much easier now to put a TDi engine in as there is no need to modify the bulkhead/footwell as there are parts available (e.g. exhaust downpipe) to help with the conversion.

Do you have any ‘Before’ pictures that you can share?

Rgds,
Gordon

Stu

You'll need to resize them down to 500kb or thereabouts then you should be fine.

There's a way to resize pics by using your email client. Basically, attach the full size pic to an email, there's normally a choice of using small, med or large attachments. Choose small. You'll have the option to save the attachment (to your pc), do so and upload it to the forum as usual.

I have increased the file size to 900kb so this should help some of you.

Tonight I spent 4 hours cleaning up my bell housing with foam kitchen cleaner, green scouters and a copper wire brush. A thousand times better but still not ready.

There was a small hole the side of a smarty on the bottom edge which I had welded and need to dress myself.

I will get a photo bucket account this weekend and start adding some photos.

I also collected my shot peened & polished gears, so nearly ready to rebuild my gearbox.
Thanks
