T PLATE

Post by myhalfyFFR » Mon Oct 06, 2025 11:10 am

Good morning, I found this license plate on eBay. Can someone tell me what it's for and where to install it on the vehicle?
Thanks,
Best regards,
Mauro

Hi Mauro,

I don't recognise the plate as one ever fitted to a Land Rover, and a 'T' on a plate was usually the reserve of trailers many years ago. Most of the ones for trailers I have seen have had reflectors on the 'T' itself, I've not seen in the flesh, or a picture of, a plain one with a seperate reflector before. The way it's painted makes it look like it's a 'Convoy' plate, but these are usually central on a vehicle/trailer, and not to one side which this would be with a reflector above it and what appears to be a tail/brake lamp.

This brings back memories. It’s off a Bofors L70 anti aircraft gun. Someone must have bought it for the convoy light, and they’re now flogging what’s left.

Good morning, thanks for your reply. It's very interesting. In fact, I didn't think it was a license plate for LR. I've never seen any photos of an LR with this license plate. I have a Bofors L70 in the yard that needs refurbishing, but it's a ex Armee Francaise and there are no license plates.
Best regards
Mauro

That T plate was british Bofors only. Other nations used their own versions, different to the one shown.

You have an L70? That must be some yard you’ve got there! I have a few british manuals squirilled away from my time including EMERs so if you need any help, I might have the info available, unless I actually can manage to remember the info! PM me if you need have any questions on Bofors. Best, Martin

Hi, thanks for the offer of help, but I don't think I'll rebuild the Bofors. There's a lot of work to do. I'm thinking of selling it as is.
Best regards,
Mauro
