Hello Everyone

Post by VictorLymbery » Sat Oct 07, 2023 9:11 pm

Hello all,
I have recently bought a Series 3 GS Lightweight and expect I will be regularly visiting this forum to look for support and information in my early days of ownership.
I am moderately experienced with series landrovers having restored a SWB Series 11a and enjoyed owning a LWB Series 11a LWB, both of which I let go during the covid days when things were a bit rough. For my sins I still have a P38 Rangie which I have owned for 12 years and enjoy owning, but my Lightweight is where I see my interest developing.
It is moderately restored, fully road-worthy, but I want to sympathetically bring it back to where it might have been during its service.

Welcome to the forum. Great to have you and looking forward to seeing lots of pics. It would be great to see some pictures of the entire collection. Good luck and ask anything you like and someone on the forum is bound to be able to help.

Hi Victor,

Welcome to the forum, I hope you enjoy your time on here. If you've restored and owned a couple of IIA's then the lightweight won't present you with any problems, and I'm sorry to hear that you had to let them go. There's plenty of knowledgeable people on here if you do need to pick a brain or two for information.

Don't worry about the sin of owning a P38, I'm sure it wont be too long before the BECM fails leaving you stranded and paying for your sins. :P (Saying that, I'd rather have a P38 than an L405, or anything with an Ingenium engine in it.)

Feel free to post up a pic of your lightweight, we like piccies we do. And cake, obviously....

Regards,

Thanks for the welcomes, it is reassuring that there are enthusiasts that have gone through my future trials that lie ahead and I hope that I can contribute any successes I may have to others that follow!
My first trial was that when flushing and refilling the cooling system, I found a hairline fracture in the lower radiator connector (probably exacerbated by my pulling a dfficult bottom hose off!). I was not so much upset that the rad leaked, more that I lost 3 liters of coolant refilling it before I noticed!
I ordered a replacement radiator from Paddocks on Sunday, received it on Tuesday morning and had it fitted and filled on Tuesday afternoon.
