That's the cheapest one I've seen.

When I was posted to my first unit in Germany from training, for having the cheek to be the newest member of the section, I was given the fantastic opportunity to be the section's nominated anti-tank gunner. God did I hate carrying the thing around! Luckily it didn't come out to play very often, and once another new guy was posted in he got the AT role, and I moved up a step to section gunner on the LMG.

In the build up to possible deployment to the Gulf for Op Granby, I got the once in a lifetime experience to fire the thing for real. I say once in a lifetime, as having done it once you never want to fire it again. I think I would have rather take on a tank with my KFS than pull the trigger on a live Charlie G.

When we did deploy, we didn't take the weapon with us anyway, and were issued the LAW 80 once there.. When we got back the Charlie G had been withdrawn.

Amazing, I joined 7 Royal Anglian (TA) in Lincoln somewhere around mid '78 and after Bassingbourn recruit training, guess what, I got landed at 6' 2"tall and very fit with the damned thing as No.1
Anyway, I only fired TPT, never live; but in later years on my SASC Stage 5 at Catterick ITC it was on LAW 80 and what a dream, light, easily man portable and so simple; it was December and freezing cold with intermittent snow showers, subsequently we had to abandon range time in a total white out. Ahh well, happy times long time ago.

The LAW 80 was a luxury comparted to the Charlie-G, although I never had to carry one in anger over any distance, as it lived in the wagon all deployment and I wa never issued one again. It did get fired off at the end of the conflict, and I still have the sight unit I prised off of it somewhere.

Yes I was looking at it yesterday. Sadly I had a little booboo on my mountain bike not long ago. Turns out if you spend all your hard earned on a high end MTB then 2 weeks later slam it into some rocks and trees at 30+mph the warranty won't cover the damage. It also means the boss is less than happy your off work for a while and won't let you get something delivered to work so the other half won't know about it. And the other half is annoyed because you spent all you money on the bike, need a chunk more to fix it, and to top it all off are now kicking around the house unable to do much more than get in her way.

All in all I'm not sure it's worth the trouble at the moment

Life eh!?!

It does have a habit of getting on the way every now and then, the cunning bugger. Hopefully all will soon heal and be mended, and 'normal' life will resume with you back in the good books again all round.
