What's the go to tyre choice these days, I'm a little out of touch but for a relatively original look you had the choice of Security or Deestone copies of the original pattern.

My tyres are only just holding air and looking something like the bottom of a dried up lake bed so in desperate need of replacing.

Deestone's are available, there's some on ebay at the moment, £239 each I think.

if you are after the Hi-Miler look, these are the cheapest Deestones I found on the bay,

An internet search may find them out there for less, but like everything else of late, the price of tyres has shot up.

The shoulders on the tread blocks of the Security's do stick out more compared to the Deestones and the original Goodyears and are quite noticeable, but they are cheaper to buy. And the design should give a bit better traction in mud. I don't have any experience of running either of these tyre types, but I'm sure their grip on wet tarmac will be true to the original Hi-Milers.

I'm running deestone's and find them as good as hi-milers, as Neil says good for drifting in the wet

I've been looking at tyres recently too and am thinking of Deestones. But also been wondering about something better on the road in the wet but keeping the block tread on the circumference.
Has anyone tried these - Michelin 4x4 XZL 7.50 x 16? They're about £200 each.

Thanks again everyone. I remember running hi-milers on my 109. I could powerslide the back end out on the road, admittedly in the the wet.

I'm definitely going for the original look despite having run other patterns previously, I'm not over worried about the handling as frankly an aging landrover is no speed machine

I haven't used the XZL myself but they seem to be fairly well regarded by the off road brigade. No off road tyre will handle like a road tyre but these arnt as bad as many from what I'm told.

I haven't tried them on a Lightweight, but have travelled a few miles on them in my time in Military 90's and 110's as they were a standard issue tyre for those. Their grip off road is good, but on smooth wet tarmac isn't the best when cornering at speed, about on par with the XCL I'd say.
