Dealer that will give me a fair price for my L/w??

Post by mrick » Fri Dec 03, 2021 3:30 pm

I want to sell my Series III lightweight, but, with due respect to Club Members, I don't want the hassle that can be associated with a private sales.
It's probably a contradiction in terms, but can anyone recommend a dealer that will give me a "fair" price for my Lightweight?
The Vehicle is a 1976 Series III, 12 volt, Petrol.
I had it re-registered as an "Historic Vehicle", which means that it is Tax, MoT AND ULEZ Exempt!
I would describe it as being in "Good" condition.
It, and I, live in Ealing, West London.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Sad that you have decided to sell your lightweight, but it is yours to do what you will.

I believe it is very difficult for most club members, to recommend a deal that will offer you a "fair" price for your vehicle, if that is what you want to do.

I would suggest that you contact local LR Dealers who actually deal in ex-military vehicles and request a price from them. But be aware, they will offer a much lower price, than one could gain by selling direct.

Wishing you good luck in your endeavors.

No dealer will give a competitive price to a retail sale, but you might want to try these chaps:

https://moto-drome.com/

They are a good company and might do some sort of deal whereby they sell it for you rather than buying it and reselling it.

Gentlemen,

Thank you very much for your helpful replies.

Unfortunately, "time is of the essence", hence the dealer* route, although I realise that I could probably get more money by selling privately...

*"moto-drome" appear to be a particularly straight dealer, and I was impressed by the video "walk-around" which showed warts and all!

I looked a while ago at some p/x options when I was lusting after a defender (thankfully I've gotten that out of my system). Very few dealers offer a fair price for the half ton, simply because it's a relatively niche thing in the land rover world.

Ironically, the further away from traditional "mil spec" you are (i.e. dirty diesel, power steering etc :( ) the better value you seem to get dealer wise.

What would you consider a fair price for your half ton? It seems to be between £8k to £10k atm, though sometimes it varies beyond that.

Ludo,
Thanks.
Yes, "niche" often means under-valued!
Privately, I would expect around £10K; from a (fair!) dealer £7.5K.
We'll see!
