What is this actually?

Post by removeduser185 » Mon Jun 15, 2020 11:59 pm

This doesn't look to me like an underbonnet tool box for a Lightweight, but what is it? Is it an underbonnet toolbox from other Series Land Rovers? Is it only military? I can't recall having seen one like this before.

Hi Fred! :D ,

I saw that last night and was left scratching my head as to where I had seen one before?

Might have been in the ferous scrap bin in Hameln.

If you scroll down to the second type on this page, it looks to be a close match..

Seems to suggest non-lightweight but military 2a.

Yep, that's what it must be. I think I'd rather have arepro one at a third of the price than that very manky original. Then again, there's always the biscuit tin!

The latter for me every time, based on rarity and in-service-mod-ness. Or, as it shall be henceforth known..

“Tin, Biscuits, under-bonnet”

Obviously biscuit selection is vital when considering engine temp survivability...so think bourbons and pink wafers rather than chocolate hobnobs.

they were fitted to some series 2 landys. fits under the bonnet on the LHS beneath the wing..the lid comes off very easily and is lost, so they were discontinued..i picked one up at newbury (thinking at a glance it was a Lwt one)...
fortunately my neighbour is rebuilding his 2a so it came in handy.
