Here is a story about my 2a swb project, upto last summer me and son owned a 1988 90 ( civvy ) that me and son used for the odd pay and play day, anyway one day on the way back from a p and p day we was rear ended at a set of lights and the result was the rear X member inc tow ball and drop plate took a the impact then once we got it home we found further damage down the chassis, anyway the 90 was written off but inc the pay out we bought the 90 back and replaced the chassis, anyway a few months before the accident son anounced he was getting married and his wife to be's parents new he and wife to be was into landy's and bought them a 2a to restore and sell on for there wedding as a wedding present from them, anyway obviously i was more or less the one doing the work on it with son pitching in when he could, anyway the ins claim on the 90 was still going through and the other party's ins was dragging there feet and in the end it went to court and as all this was going on and the wedding getting closser and the 2a not being worked on as we was working on the 90 but now finished we decided on seing the 90 to pay for the wedding and i keep the 2a
So with me taking over the 2a at this point it was totally stripped, rotten chassis weighed in and new Ritchads chassis bought just waiting to be picked up i started rebuilding the axles and fitting new Parabolic springs and Defender diffs then once the chassis arrived i started fitting the axles to the chassis, i have plans for the gearbox to be rebuilt untested as the 2a was a runner but not road worthy and have the tranny box uprated but i fitted it just to make room on the garage floor.
The 2.25P engine was rattling at the back end and i had a good used 200tdi engine from my Defender spare so have fitted this and due to the timing case being damaged i re-dressed it as a Discovery engine, fitted a 300tdi exhaust manifold and a new Steve Parker 300tdi-series exhaust.
I have fitted std 10" brakes but i'm looking into fitting Heystee disc conversion all round as i had a 2a years ago with the 200tdi fitted with 11" brakes and had nothing but trouble with the wheel cylinders leaking so don't want to go there again.
Will post pic's later in the week
