Hiya Andy! :D ,

The Trimble is indeed an early GPS unit, I first saw one during the first Gulf War when the Squadron were issued two of them. I'm not sure how often they appear for sale, or their going rate, as I had never looked for one before last Sunday.

Anyway, here are a few pics of mine.

The silver bit you see poking out of the side is a co-ax connector for an external antenna, although the unit has it's own built in one.

I wanted to show a pic of the screen display, but it ate all the batteries I had laying around whilst playing with it last night.

A pic of the rear showing the battery pack which holds eight AA batteries, and can be removed and replaced with a power adaptor which allows you to run it from your vehicle electrics.

I'm pretty chuffed that it came with the vehicle adaptor. I also received a users handbook with it. A look online showed that there are twenty-one versions of this type of Trimble, and this one is a TransPak (Spartan), Part No 14992-20, NSN 5825-01-364-6283. This unit is moulded in black with later models being moulded in green. Not too bad for £50 though me thinks. :D

I suppose I'd best keep an eye out for an external antenna and a vehicle mount for it now.

Gordy,

Did the Trimble you had look like mine? Or was it a green one with external power and Import/export connectors on the side?

Hi Neil,

What a great result mate and to get the power adaptor and instructions is a massive bonus!

Mine was the green version, can't remember the connections, and i sold it in 2012 for £120 so you've got a real bargain :P

Where will you mount it?

I heard that some were mounted on the door?

Rgds,
Gordon

Bugger! No doors on the Recce!

We didn't receive the dedicated vehicle mounts with our units, so one was mounted on a shelf bolted to the outside of the passenger door of the OC's 110 so that it could be read from inside. I can't for the life of me remember what happened with the other one, possibly went onto on of the HQ Sultans.

If your's was a green one it was more than likely a 16780-## SLGR-Trimpack. I would like one of those.

If you sold yours for £120, I will consider my £50 well spent. 8-)

Hiya Neil :D

That's rather nice, and a bit of a bargain to boot.

I can't believe the last post on this thread was on Gazpacho soup day four years ago! But, after four years of looking, I have finally got my hands on a Trimble vehicle mount for the Recce.

Unfortunately, to get the mount I had to get the other items that came with it. But I'm not complaining.

As along with the mount came another GPS unit, so I now have two. Both of these are working units.

I also recieved a Magellan Trailblazer GPS unit, again working.

And a vehicle mount for the Magellan.

A pic of the GPS unit fitted in it's mount.

I also recieved a carry bag and an instruction manual for both of the GPS units, so not a bad haul.

I just need a Magellan NAV 1000M to complete the set now.

Great find, although probably not cheap! Where will you mount it in the recce?

Hiya Rob! :D ,

When you add up all the items, the price works out about right. But, I would have paid it for the mount alone as you don't see them very often.

The plan is to mount it between the seats so it sits above the shunt box, bolting the swivel mount to the dexion that runs along the inside front of the tub. I can then power it from a Clansman Power Distribution Box. It should sit nicely there between the radio sets.
