OK I'll go with the S3 light, that's an easy fix.

Can you point out the differences between civvy and military please.

Assuming the plate is the same, the main clocks are the same I think so that leaves the extra switches etc.

If it's just a few holes to fill I'll fill them with the welder once I'm proficient enough.

The Aux panel was correct I think as she was originally an For and it used to have and ammeter and a volt meter.

The difference is the two switches in the top centre of the panel, whereas the lwt has one switch in the centre.

The panels do come up on eBay - you could easily 'trade yours in' for a lightweight one with probably very little net spend.

Much easier to use the correct panel than bother filling in a civvy one that someone else might be keen to source.

Below is a photo of mine, albeit from an early 2a, so you'd need to check this is correct for you as there were all sorts of changes around the time of the late 2as. Mine seems to match the one in this advert:

The 'rose' ignition lights (they look a bit like a red rose bud) are indeed like unicorn poo, if unicorn poo turned out to be made of unobtanium, and the only dwindling supplies were held in the pocket of the giant at the top of the magic beanstalk. Being a disorganised so and so, I lost mine for a while. I was so distraught I tore the whole garage apart until I found it nestling in the corner of a cardboard box I had queued up to be burned. To say I celebrated was an understatement. My wife still remembers this over a year later.

If you see one (assuming you need one and that it is correct for your vehicle), in my humble opinion it is worth buying the whole dash panel it is no doubt being sold with.

The 2as quite often didn't have the 'top hat' cover strip of steel at the top of the picture in the tap advert. At least mine didn't, and neither did many I have seen in photos since. I don't know if it was a later addition to stop the driver knocking the tap with their knee, or whether it was simply removed because conversely it was in the way, or just lost/forgotten during servicing work.

Andy any chance of a pic of the "rose" type light so I know what I'm looking for ideally.

My S2A is a late one with the wing boxes etc.

Previous owner fitted civvy S3 wiring loom and probably the dash panel at the same time as he was changing from FFR spec to GS 12V spec.

Shiny new knob purchased as the hole for the pin in mine is so worn there's a bit of slop on it.

See photos below - I've zoomed in gradually to show you where it goes. You'll notice the red bit sits in a black plastic base / cup.

I have read about people butchering these lights - they are an old 60s style captive diode, but ultimately what you will probably be interested in is the overall effect - so if the element stops working (they do break apparently), some people have cleaned up the back of the red bit to remove the two connectors (now useless) which out the back, and have fitted a modern LED to the back (I guess with glue). Then when you plug it in to the dash, no one is any the wiser and it all looks original.

Now all you need is some kind soul on here to put their hand up to having a spare one with a dead element...

One has to wonder why Land rover suddenly became interested in the 'arts and crafts' movement part way through the development of this vehicle.

I suspect someone's nan saw the initial designs left on a coffee table somewhere in the midlands around the mid-60s, and decided that a plain hemi-spherical light design would just not do.

Shop around and check the regular dealers before going on eBay. For example, the 6-way switch decal from Craddocks is under £3 rather than the +£12 advertised here.

Is that for the sticker only Fred, or for the plastic arch backing as well? I notice Craddocks are a bit sketchy with supplying photos of what you are actually buying sometimes. Good spot though.

They are alloy plates now rather than plastic ones where the details rubbed off.
