Hi,
been a while.
As well as the FFR which I sold I purchased a Lightweight V8 auto (my youngest son has an arm injury and can only drive an auto)) but due to then moving house and undergoing a complete referb on the property it's been sitting in a field since then.
Now in a position to start refurbing. Loads to do but one item is a hole in what appears to be a heater control but I cannot find anything on RR or LR diagrams that look similar. Anyone got any ideas as to where it came from?
Any guesses appreciated
Thanks

Re: Help please
I haven't managed to identify that valve as anything from the Rover stable on a search of the usual V8 engines vehicles I did. Would it be possible to have the valve braze/solder/weld repaired? You could take it to a radiator repair company for their thoughts, if you have one near you. We have one near me where we take cores and holed pipes to be repaired when new ones are unavailable or their cost prohibits replacement.
Failing that, you could just bypass it. I don't have an open/close valve in my V8's coolant/heater system.
Regards,

Re: Help please
Found it from another forum.
It's a bypass valve from a London Taxi
Apparently used in loads of kit cars and conversions as it's a simple basic valve.

Glad to hear you've found a replacement one.

Re: Help please
More help please.
I am starting to get into things now, and given that auto is 3 speed it appears that it is a Torqueflight box, which is apparently pretty bombproof but very power hungry.
Does anyone know if the ZF4HP22 will fit in it's place size wise? And is it worth doing?
Thanks

Re: Help please
The Torqueflite box has a big step between the gears that saps power, especially on a standard 3.5. so can feel sluggish. It is pretty robust so is fitted to a few trials vehicles as they spend most of their time in locked in second anyway.
The ZF box is wider in the body than the Torqueflite IIRC, but front to rear the dimensions are the same. The gearbox bell housings fit straight from one V8 to another, and the chassis mountings are the same so you shouldn't need to alter what you have already. Make sure that you get everything from the donor V8 vehicle from the crankshaft back as the flex plates, spacers, and mountings for the torque converter are different. You will also need the gear shifter and cables as they are also different. Depending on the age and type of the vehicle the transmission comes from you may end up with a different transfer box. You don't say what is on the back of your auto box at present.
Whether or not to swap will be down to your personal circumstances.
