New exhaust

Hi - I've got a RHD S3 (1980) lightweight, and it won't be long before the exhaust needs replacing. As far as I can tell from checking both the military parts catalogue and the civvy version, the standard exhaust components for any S3 88 RHD petrol will fit, but as I want to go for a stainless replacement, I want to be certain before chucking almost £300 away! The standard parts are 517469 (front), 264195 (middle) and 562731 (silencer - I think this supersedes 90569118 which is listed in the military parts list).

Has anyone fitted those parts, or specifically the Double S stainless versions (SSLR19, SSLR20 and SSLR29 in their parts language)?

Thanks for any info!
Ian

Hi Ian,

Welcome to the forum.

The exhaust system is a standard Series item on the military vehicles. I haven't had experience of the Double S exhausts, but they can't fit worse than an aftermarket mild steel system.

Regards,

Hi,

I fitted a Double S full stainless system on my 2A lightweight in 2015 when it went back on the road.
It's still solid, however the pipes (not the back box) are all very rusty like a standard exhaust - apparently this is because of the grade of stainless steel is not actually stainless.

I was told about stainless steel doing this at college but I paid no attention and as such can't remember why?

Cheers,

Chris
