Getting rid of a Q plate

Hi All.
I'm launching in to this question in the desperate hope of getting rid of the Q plate that came with my recently purchased Lt/wt.
1. I dont know when it got its Q plate and apparently the clock ticks for 12 months and then you have to keep it.
2. I have a dating cert from BMIHT but that was sent to a previous owner in 1995.
Q1. Will I need a more up to date certificate?
Q2. Its a military vehicle - who could provide me with "the factory record / military card / ledger"?
I would really like to run this as a historic vehicle with all the obvious benefits Including being able to drive it from my workshop to my house if need be etc.
