Replacing alternator on old RAF Lightweight this afternoon , and managed to get all bolts out quite easily after taking off vehicle wing.
But then found a bushing that the rear lower bolt goes through is preventing my lifting off the alternator.
Don't want to risk damaging anything, and wondered if anyone tackled same problem?
alternator
Re: alternator
The bushing can get pulled in tight by the bolt. Wriggling the alternator up and down whilst pulling it away from the block will often work them free, sometimes they need persuading off with a prybar or suchlike. Tapping them lightly with a hammer if needs be shouldn't break the casing.

Re: alternator
You had to take the wing off to get to it?!alz wrote: ↑Thu Oct 28, 2021 7:39 pmReplacing alternator on old RAF Lightweight this afternoon , and managed to get all bolts out quite easily after taking off vehicle wing.

Had to replace mine recently, and was also stuck - crawl underneath with a block of wood and a hammer, gently tap from the bottom and it'll come loose.
Re: alternator
Laborious, victorious - thanks to your help. much appreciated.
Must be the original Lucas alternator on the old '79 Lightweight, was wedged in tight. Wing comes off so easily, gave best access for getting at it and did the antifreeze at same time.
Now planning to get historic vehicle status for it.
