Rear lifting eye wanted.

Post by andrewjsimpson1977 » Thu May 21, 2020 4:39 pm

I’m missing one rear lifting eye. Happy to get one with or without the backing plate and bolts, as these can be sourced easily.

Thanks in advance,

Andy

Well I’ve just been out to measure my existing lifting eye as there is an image online with one next to a tape measure. They apparently should be 4.5 inches long. Mine is half an inch shorter the than that (despite being sold as for a lightweight). Grr.

So now I have drilled one of the holes (well two - the top hole which passes through two faces of the bulkhead) in the wrong bl00dy place! Double grr.

I can weld them up easily enough (should have paid attention to the pre drilled hole hidden in the inner face which Richards chassis left me as a guide, idiot).. but now I’m in the market for two lifting eyes. I just assumed that as there was no upper hole drilled in the mounting tab on the outer surface of the crossmember, that Richards maybe weren’t sure where it should go. I should have taken the time to find out from one of the other forum-ers instead of being impatient.

Wonder what vehicle mine is off? Austin Gypsy maybe?

Ah ha!

I hope Jiml doesn’t mind me relinking to his photo here, but it appears the shorter lifting eye is the same as on his non-lightweight model:

@Jiml I don’t suppose you need a spare? Happy to pass on, particularly as you’ve kindly donated some hinges.

Hiya Andy! :D ,

Haven't found any spare ones laying around work yet, but, have measured one off the lightweight here. (I drilled the holes in it's new crossmember last week.) Overall it measures 4 5/8", and the hole centres are 3 5/8" apart.

My lifting eyes are 4.5 inches long, I understand them to be the original ones, took me ages to remove / cut them off I've taken them off to clean them up before fitting the back furniture
