1969 Air Portable 39FG03

Post by CornwallDave » Thu Aug 29, 2019 6:27 pm

Army reg was 39FG03 and was sold off and registered in 1976.

The car was working and useable when I got it but still decided to take it apart and deal with some rust. Its had 19 owners and a fair few changes of the years so it will never be restored back to original so will just have some fun with it.

When I got it

Very easy to take to bits

Managed to get the chassis cleaned up and painted as well as the bulkhead and tub the other week

Engine and gearbox back in. Some wiring done and I managed to get the engine running but now have a leak at the back of the gearbox

Welcome to the forum, Dave. Really nice to see an opener with some photos! It's clear that you are already having a lot of fun with it, rebuilding is a great pastime and satisfying when it's done. Do you know any of the history of the vehicle? I presume that, originally, it had its lights in the front panel rather than in the wings, so that will be a private-owner mod. But, with 19 to choose from, probably difficult to say which one it was!

Anyway, all the best with your project and keep the photos and the news coming.

Thanks all.

Below is the B Card for the vehicle. Not sure about the wings but they are fibre glass parts.

I wonder what the 2nd Battalion the 51st Highlanders (Volunteers) managed to do with it to get it cast after such a short time!
