Engine Paint/Painting,

Hi Guys,
I'm currently in the process of gathering parts together to fit the "new to me" 2 1/4 petrol engine in place of the diesel that is currently fitted.
So far i have got
plugs,
coil,
plug leads,
electronic ignition,
engine and gearbox mounts,
clutch,
exhaust system,
and a new weber carb.
Is there anything glaringly obvious that i have missed, or that would benefit from changing whilst the engine is out?
Im wanting to clean and repaint the lump before i put it in, any hints and tips?
Whats best to clean/degrease it with?
What is the correct colour of paint for the block and where can i get it from?
Do i need a specific undercoat, if so which one?

Sorry for bombarding you with loads of questions but i'd like to get it right first time.

I used a heat resistant enamel from this guy

Applied it with the recommended primer first and a 1/2'' brush. Gives a great finish.

On a more serious note, I gave my engine a coating of oven cleaner, followed by a going over with a stiff brush, and then hit it with a pressure washer. Having ensured all open orifices were taped over before hand. Any loose/flaking paint was scraped off and any rough edges from the paint to the bare metal were smoothed over/'feathered in' before the lump was masked up, primed and top coated.

It is a little bit darker than other engine paints under that number are, but not too far away.

Sky Blue if it has been preserved.

I cleaned mine off with engine cleaner and various solvents - petrol, paraffin etc. Then I used a tin of bright silver engine paint as an undercoat, before using the sky blue engine paint from Paints-R-Us. I wouldn't recommend the latter, though, as they found it impossible to match different batches of their own paint! To be correct, it is only an MoD rebuilt engine which would be sky blue.

To be strictly correct, I ought to have painted everything sky blue, including the breather and oil filler caps, the generator, both manifolds and the fan, but I wanted a bit of extra "interest" that made it look as though I hadn't simply slapped paint all over it! And don't forget the "Preserved" stencilling!

Cleaned mine with paraffin and then dunked everything in an old loft water header tank with lots of hot water and soap powder, cloths and a brush Came up like new.
Dried off and oiled up bores etc Phil
