ok after lots of paint stripping its nearly time to start painting. I have got some satin nato green paint of good old ebay, my next question is when lightweights were delivered to the army where they bronze green with blacked out galvernizing?
thats what the base colour of mine seems to be. i am trying to nitromors the cappings and screen to see if i can get them back to silver if not they are going to be satin blacked.
paint layers found upto now...

bronze green (i think)
green/black
sand
green (painted not very well by previous owner)

Depends on the year but originally they were delivered Deep Bronze Green with shiny capping.

I enjoyed stripping back the paint on mine, it's a bit like an archeological dig, you start to find all the layers and markings. But NATO paint really laughs in the face of Nitromors doesn't it?

yeah been a pig to get the paint off! its around 1983 deffo bronze green and the cappings are blacked but dont know if the army would have painted them black or just painted the lot green?
no big deal just dont think the cappings will get back to galv so will just satin black them.

having looked at photos there is a mixture of shiney cappings black or green...

1983 would have been NATO green from factory I think.

yeah i was reading about that the other day. painted the galv bits satin black not 100% sure about it yet its still abit bright might go over it with green.

I suppose it depends on whether you are spraying, rollering or brush painting.

I've only sprayed in Matt or Satin, never gloss. 2 Litres of green should be plenty for spraying Matt or Satin.

If you are going camo, you'll not need much black to go over the green, a litre would be ample for the vehicle and trailer.

For brushing/rollering, i can't imagine it would differ too much from that amount.

Oh, one last thing, its better to buy one 2 litre tin than two one litre tins, as even though they may have the same batch number, they can be a slightly different shade as someone found out......No names mentioned

finished painting it now went with green and satin black galv bits.
just fitted my new tilt will get it out of the garage and post a before and after pics
just need to sort the brake pipes out and a couple of rear springs and maybe a new carb and it should be mot time!!

oh and by the way i brushed and rollered mine and im quite happy with the finish.
