Hi Sean,

The bolts are a 1/4" BSF thread so that's the size of tap you'll need.

Never want to question your replies to people's post Neil and you are the master :D.I believe the threads are 1/4 UNF .

1/4 UNF,60 degrees thread angle,drill size of 5.5mm
1/4 BSF,55 degrees,drill size 5.3mm.

Hiya Rod,

I took the bolt thread info from the lightweight parts list and checked that against the 109 parts list as I wasn't sure it was right, and both said 1/4" by 19/32" BSF bolts. Same part number for the bolt, 544337, is in the civvy parts list. As is NRC2852 for use on the 109 V8. Both military lists could be wrong on the thread type though.

I've just been having a quick search on the bolts part number and found a link to a topic on landrovernet (LRUK forum) where someone else states that they are 1/4 UNF. So now I don't know for sure. :? I haven't stumbled across anything definitive yet, short of taking one out of a lightweight and checking it. UNF does sound the more sensible thread type, but when have Land Rover ever been sensible.

Hiya Neil :D.
After I read your post I thought the bolts were UNF and you had done a typing error :o
I checked my parts book before posting my reply and it states UNF.
The drill sizes and pitches were looked up on the net coz I ain't that clever!
I'm tempted to go out to a lightweight and undo one but it's peeing with rain in sunny Bognor! :D

Hiya Rod,

The mistake was mine. I was looking at the bolts that hold the relay bottom plate oil seal retainer in, and not the bolts that hold the mounting flange to the crossmember.

The flange bolts are indeed 1/4 UNF.

You'd think that after all these years I'd have learnt how to read a parts list. I must have been half asleep still this morning.

I'll get my coat, pick up my BSF bolts, and fade slowly into the background.

My appologies to Shaun for the mistake, my thanks go to you Rod for spotting it.

Shhh! that's a secret. :D

I had just been looking online for the 'missing piece' to complete the item I have for you but that wasn't to blame. I put it down to only having had one cup of tea by that point. I just hope Sean didn't read my post and order a BSF tap before you came to the resue.

Definitely overworked though mate. I think lifting four 35" x 12.5" shod wheels on and off a Defender sat 'wheels free' on my ramps by myself yesterday afternoon wiped me out. By jings they were heavy!

Thanks boys, at the moment work has stopped due to the gazebo over the chassis getting a pasting from the wind, I've now ordered a better, stronger item. And thanks again.
