Pictures of vehicles in service
Re: Pictures of vehicles in service
The name panther kicked over some disused brain cells, basically the panther was a modified 109 used in northern Ireland not many were made...single figures, there are no known photos as it was all secret squrrel type stuff and it only came out at night. As such its a bit of a holy grail in military land rover terms. I know the land rover you were parked next to as I have seen it at shows and for sale on milweb in the past. And it is not the panther at all, it was however adapted for use in NI it was used by the royal engineers over there, at least that was what I was told by someone at a show who had a loud discussion with the owner of that vehicle, having been in the engineers in NI and having driven one
would be nice to get the reg number and do a history search to find out more though!

Thank you for filling in the blanks on that one.
Come to think.of it the guy was very over exacting on it.

I have been doing a bit of research and this might be a 'Remote Area Patrol Vehicle' (RAPV) built by Glover Webb. They are very similar to the Marshall's DPVs.a01470258 wrote:Just found this one in the archive, its been modded latterly with a WIMIK 'type' cage.
I'll keep researching

Looks like Royal Artillery late 70's or early 80's the front passenger has what looks like a pye phone (or very similar) ear peace, and I think im right in saying its a 2A lightweight due to the horn in the steering wheel and apparent lack of steering cowl

We were taught to do that in the Province or a Public Order situation, you put the sling from the butt loop around the wrist of your firing hand so that if your rifle was grabbed by someone it couldn't be turned on you and you stood a chance of wrenching it back off them.clansman352 wrote:Very good pic. Note SLR sling, left.
