My new Richards chassis turned up this morning. Will probably be a week before I can use it as I have to clear the garage of dissembled parts (hopefully by reassembling!) and remove back body, gearbox and petrol tanks off old chassis. Since my last post I have been away for a few days but I finished my steering relay with a Bearmach oil seal.

Spent half a day in the garage today …
Rebuilt clutch pedal with new shaft, bushes and pin. Only complication was that the shaft didn’t have a hole for the pin, so I had to drill one which I did carefully given the cost of the new old stock genuine parts shaft. Cleaned air cleaner in petrol and put back together. I also filled it with fresh oil which no doubt I will regret when I next knock it over in the workshop. Removed track rod ends from steering rods using lots of heat, WD40 and a plumbers pipe wrench, followed by degreasing.
Apart from the axles, the workshop is nearly clear enough to remove the back body off the old chassis.

Great progress in getting many parts cleaned up and repainted ready for fitting once you get that lovely shiny thing a different shade of new.

Another half day in the garage today...
I started off sanding the steering rods with an air DA sander but made little progress. I found a few paint removal discs at the back of my cupboard for my angle grinder and progress was a lot more rapid, finishing off with a wire brush wheel on the grinder - only took an hour in the end. Painted them with anti-rust paint, ready for zinc rich primer tomorrow.
I then turned my attention to the front diff which I removed from the front axle. For the first time on this project I found something that didn't need fully rebuilding, actually it was in perfect condition and looks new. I removed all the seals from the axle and the diff, then cleaned both with the paraffin gun. Will reassemble tomorrow with new seals and gaskets, degrease again and paint the axle.
