Hi Andy,
That's great progress you are making!
It's a shame that things can be difficult to remove, or break whilst being removed, but don't be too downhearted.
Once you get around the corner and get on to putting new/repaired/good bits back on, it's a fantastic feeling.
Hope you can save the vent panel. I can't afford the £500 for a new one so will have to repair mine. I'll be watching your progress with great interest.
Rgds,
Gordobn

Hi Andy,
Good to see your getting bits and pieces done and making progress.
I had to use a bit off heat to get the seatbelt bolts out when I stripped my tub down, and I'd soaked them a few times with penetrating oil prior to trying to get them undone. I used a propane/butane mix canister and a hand held torch to heat mine up. They can be stubborn little blighters and the bolt doesn't exactly have the biggest head to get a grip on.
Using a bit of heat and a long 1/2" drive bar may crack the steering wheel's nut, I used a two foot knuckle bar, but it wasn't that tight on the Recce.Iif a big bar doesn't crack it off, drilling and splitting it will do the job.
Good luck with repairing the vent panel, I've put the Recce's original to one side with the view to repairing it in the future.
Keep up the good work you are doing mate, it can be a hard slog at times with little to show for your efforts I know, but the end result of knowing that you achieved it will be worth it.
Regards,

Hey, just joined and just found your post. Ive had my 2a for 20 odd years (some were odder than others!). Antway great to read your progress reports, i dont get much chance to compare and contrast other lightweights let alone a 2a. Amongst the projects i have in hand i am attempting to fabricate and repair the seat box sides which have seriously turned to dust. Would there be any chance of posting some more detailed photographs of your seat box ends so i can see what they should look like? Cheers Dougie.

Hi Dougie,
I can go one better if you like and take some measurements too, if it would be helpful?
Will take some detailed photos and get the tape measure out tonight when i get in. Should be able to upload tonight to the thread.
All the best,
Andy

PS.. Gordon, Neil, Dickyboy and Chipbury (and anyone else i forgot) - thanks as usual for the input - very sage words of support - it is frustrating sometimes but i'm as excited every time i open the garage up as i ever was.
Think i am going to have a go at renovating the dash panel soon just so its not all just taking things apart. Would like to start producing finished items and squirrelling them away for when i finally get a new chassis to put it all on.

Re: Monty the rather rusty 2A - 37FG31
I found overhauling various sub assemblies and packing them away during he strip down made the final assembly much quicker. A rough list of parts like this could be:
Steering relay
Steering box/column
Heater
Dash
Pedal boxes
Carb
Windscreen wiper motor
Indicator unit
Light units - clean paint rewire
Steering wheel
If you are fitting a new loom (or using the old one) a good job is to label all the ends as its quite confusing on assembly.

Ok so that completely kicks @ss as a guide !
The measurements match mine too.
Therefore, slightly deflated by Neil's blatant and expert hijacking of my thread ..i present my photos
Good job Neil - your updates,as always..are ridiculously good.

Re: Monty the rather rusty 2A - 37FG31
It looks like there is the remnants of some sort of sealant on the base flap of the seat box?
If so, what is best to use when it comes to refitting?
