The threads are 5/16" UNF (same thread as prop shaft bolts). They need to be a hard bolt, not some cheap fixing. I find that body mounting bolts from Discovery 1 or Range Rover Classic work well although you will need to space them out so as not to over tighten them into the block. The depth is critical.
I assume you mean the flywheel and flywheel housing off rather than the bell housing? The bell housing should be coming out as part of the gearbox.

Cheers I've used bumper bolts correct size which I got from Jake Wright's I'll soon be putting the head back on so that I can replace the rear oil seal . sorry for the late reply I find this forum sometimes difficult to use
