What a faff - managed to solder the positive wire back onto the resistor and new motor spinning nicely when wired up but not fitted, but as soon as I mount the front plate the fan was fouling on something. Hard to tell what is wrong coz I can’t see anything. Thought it was the wires but hesitant to pull too much slack out for fear of breaking the solder connection...but still no joy.
Every time I dismantle I have to fit the rubber grommet for the wires, which isn’t easy with numb hands and freezing temperatures. Decided the culprit was the resistor so “persuaded” it up a bit with said numb fingers. Success at last - both speeds working nicely after a shakedown drive.
I already had huge admiration for you guys doing the chassis-up rebuilds, but it’s now off the scale - a dicky heater motor took me 3 weekends to resolve!!! You really need to be a 3 handed gynecologist to work on these vehicles
