underbonnet starter

Post by alz » Tue Mar 17, 2026 8:57 pm

Acquired a push button starter solenoid BCA4501 in spare parts buy.
Says online useful for working solo on the engine and seem to remember my father had car with one years ago
Has anyone fitted one of these? Wondering about the wiring.

That solenoid should be wired up exactly as your existing one. The only extra this has is a rubber covered button on the end which you physicaly press for 'Underbonnet' operation. Beats shorting the terminals with a spanner !

Thanks for that, Dormy. Think I'll give it a try - and make sure I always have the old lightweight out of gear first!
On internet sounds like the starter solenoids in old British cars often had a similar version with a push button, and apparently Land Rovers?
