Radiator help
Radiator help
Hi,
I’m trying to work out which radiator is needed for my 1968 lightweight.
The 1970 parts manual is showing one with a flat top, however most references to that I’m finding are for NADA exports, and almost all similarly aged reference images I’m finding show it with the rounder s3 top.
I’m keen to get this right, even if it means jumping through some hoops, any input would be appreciated.
Thanks,

Re: Radiator help
Been through all the S2 manuals and compared a lot of part numbers, now I'm confident it's the rounded top straight tap version and they just reused an old drawing in the catalogue.

Re: Radiator help
Hello Sir
I think James Taylors geek book says the rad's changed at 'Suffix G' but its not clear to me if he means this was at chassis suffix G, so same time as headlights moved to the wings on normal shaped Series in April 1969, or engine Suffix G which was introduce May 1965.
Having said all that, I have just pulled a December 1968 built Lightweight apart for restoration. Its on its original chassis, original engine, all nuts and bolts buried under the thick underseal etc. . .It had the later 'Series 3' type rad in it with overflow bottle, not the earlier broad top tank rad. As far as I could tell, the engine has never been out and the rad had never been taken off the front panel. I am going to reuse this rad when rebuilt as I think it is original to the vehicle.

Hi!
That's fantastic, thanks for the confirmation! I'm comfortably confident in rad choice now, much appreciated.

Re: Radiator help
Unfortunately, I need to correct myself!
The December 68 build I have just stripped. . .I looked on the shelf today. . it has a broad top tank rad!
I believe the change of rad type happened then when the lights moved to the wings.
Really sorry. My only excuse is I have too many Lightweights and got confused! My other two, both lights-in-middles, have the later rad but also have later engines (a Rover V8 and a 2.5 petrol)

Re: Radiator help
Aha, at least I hadn't bought one yet!
Thanks for your help, really, mine is also December 68' and it can't get more definitive than that.
I can only be envious of the length of your signature

Re: Radiator help
Top pic is correct for a '68 vehicle to best of my knowledge, bottom pic looks a real lash up and not a Rover engine.

Re: Radiator help
Hi Bob,
Fantastic, cheers.
Only hesitated as it's just like that on some preprod pictures I found, good to clear it up.
