Heritage Certificate

Is a British Motor Museum Heritage certificate going to have a correct date of manufacture for my lightweight? And if so, is this proof enough for historic tax status?
I ask because the date on my V5 is 1983, but the first hand-written entry on my B-card is 4-12-82 which would make it tax exempt from April. The certificate is about £50, so I don't want to spend that unless it will be helpful.

I think I've answered my own question. According to the British Motor Museum, the heritage certificate is accepted by the DVLA as proof of age.

You should be OK, but be aware that DVLA have had to deal with too many hookie copies of the BMHIT certificates and can request more detail if they want to get difficult. They won't accept it as proof of build date alone these days. They usually require a dating letter from JLR or an approved car club. The Series 2 LR Club is authorised by DVLA to assist in these cases, so if you get into difficulty, contact the vehicle registration officer of the Series 2 Club. It is a chargeable service, but worthwhile if you get any DVLA pushback.

You might well be lucky though. Try it and see if it goes through. My V5 said that my LWT was a 1969 build when in fact ist a December 68 build (important only for me as we share the same build year. They changed mine off the back of a submitted BMHIT certificate, but that was 4 years ago.

Thanks Diffwhine. I paid the £10 to get confirmation that the build date is December '82 so I will be tax & mot exempt this year. So the gamble is, do I pay the extra £50 for the certificate just to get it dismissed by the DVLA, or just suck it up and wait a year....

I just took my documents and a copy of the heritage certificate to my local post office and it was done straight away with no fuss.
