New to me mk3

Post by Bigdon1981 » Sat Feb 04, 2023 6:31 pm

Hi all,
Picked up a new project today, a mk3 wide track, it’s going to work for it’s upkeep, tub sides are only just in contact with what’s left of the floor

Towed great ( other than seeing the tub flex  )

No brakes currently as no master cylinder, not sure on the rest of the brake system, “park brake” lever stuck fast, so loads to do.

If anyone knows of a tub I would be most grateful, existing one isn’t beyond repair ( just) but might make life a bit simpler!

Also sort of fitted to it is a mod water bowser both bought so my good ladies 2 1/2 horses will have water.

Will post more findings as I find them

Cheers
P.s photos of my phone are too big which is annoying!
Also spotted possibly an interesting rare s3 109 which might be being considered to restore by me next.

Blanchards have the bodies for the Mk3 in stock.

THEXMOD have the master cylinders in stock.

You may find them cheaper elsewhere, but the part numbers are there in the link to search with.

Thank you AR4412 for those, think a new tub would be cheaper than the welding wire
Going to look it over properly in the morning, and see what other bits are required for the brakes etc.

Will be updating regularly on the trailer for a week or 3 as it needs to be put to work! Fingers crossed get to look at my 1/2 ton this year too

Cheers again

Hi all,
Unfortunately can’t upload any photos as they are all too big, have cropped them but still too large! Can include the report on what it did while serving.

Have put the bowser on pallets up the field for now as funds not allowing me to sort the trailer tub.

Have been freeing up the legs, tie downs etc with a view of removing the tub, cleaning and painting the chassis then fitting a good tub.

Did have a thought, there’s a penman body and chassis on evil bay, would the tub ( with mods) fit the chassis? After all it’s cheaper than a new tub! Fingers crossed funds will allow a new tub from Blanchards ( 2 would be ideal as what happens when they close !)

Cheers

The Penman tub is longer and wider overall than the WT MKIII tub is, by around 30mm each way IIRC. It is also wider between the wheel boxes, so the Penman tub may foul on the inner faces of the WT tyres. The mounting points are different as the chassis design is different between the two, square framed on the WT, and triangular with outriggers on the Penman. There is also a different amount of mounting points. Eight against ten IIRC. It may be possible to fit the Penman tub by just drilling or fabricating new mounting holes/points to suit, but have never tried and wouldn't like to say without one of each sat side by side. But then, nothing is impossible without a bit of time, effort, head scratching, or application of cash, oxy acetylene, or a hammer.

Cheer Ar, did think wonder if that was the case, going to remove what’s left of the original tub this weekend and probably use some marine ply temporarily until if find either the cash for a new one or a decent replacement, have seen a wide track with a civy hitch that’s had nato one removed not to far from me that might fit the bill, prefer NATO hitch due to the ridge an furrow field, plus I’m too lazy to change the hitch!
