When trying to do the same, Tony Abrahams (RLC)/Merlin) suggested I try the Portsmouth Dockyard Library. They can be reached at Collections.Research@NMRN.org.uk and are in the process of sending me some information (I don't know what yet) on my vehicle.

Good luck tracing it's Navy history, I have no experience of trying myself, but I believe it's tricky due to their annoying habit of recycling ERM's.
