Got the heritage certificate back today. My Series 2a lightweight was built 5th Feb 1971 and delivered to Central Army Vehicle Depot, Hilton, Derbyshire on 2nd march 1971
Label number 3/10
Series 2a
Re: Series 2a
Heritage Cert also shows Bronze/Green colour.
The re-plate is late 1970s, judging by the width and colours. The two filled in rivet holes higher up are exactly in line with the width. Lager plates to fit where the blanked rivets are were early 70s. Therefore the fact that the blanked rivets are still there indicates that this was in fact probably the original bulkhead, obviously now restored. Given it looks like a series 3 bulkhead, alongside the series 3 steering column, an "invisible" contract number, and evidence of a hard top once, it is beginning to look like this was a trial vehicle at the end of the Series 2a run....yes, some of the running gear is modified to keep up with modern traffic, but it would otherwise appear structurally this is less of a bitsa than it appears.

Re: Series 2a
Looks like a very useful vehicle to me - certainly sorted. The other thread discussion about steering wheels. I'm assuming your horn works on the lights dim dip / indicator switch on the side of the column? If so, its set up as a Series 3 configuration, so when you hunt for your steering wheel, you should find that any Series 3 or late 2A one will fit and you just have a blank cover over the centre of the wheel rather than the 2 / 2A horn push. Most need restoring which isn't difficult. You probably know this already, but unless somebody has done a real mix up, your steering column / box will not accept a wheel for an earlier (pre 1965 I think) pinch bolt type wire wheel. The later 2A ones and Series 3 ones are all the same although later ones were plastic coated.
Re: Series 2a
Thanks very much @diffwhine. Yes horn works on the lights dim dip indicator on the side of the steering column. I thought it might be a late 2A wheel, but was not 100% sure, but your comment makes me confident to get a late 2A one.
Re: Series 2a
I ditched my 2a’s original wheel and fitted a Series 3 wheel - they look the same to the untrained eye, can take the 2a indicator cancelling ring if needed, and are plastic instead of Bakelite which generally cracks or the top surface has worn away leaving black hands when used. The s3 wheel is also more plentiful.
Re: Series 2a
Thanks for that advice too! Searching....
Re: Series 2a
My lovely IIa Lightweight up for sale. Could not get my wife to step down in the power steering wars, so bought a Winter/Water Wolf.
