What is the correct engine for a 1969 Series 2A Lightweight (23601121A) a 236 or 237? Is the only difference between 237 and 236 the compression ratio?
Another random question - Why is a C40T Dynamo specified rather than the standard C40? (I understand the 'T' has a tachometer drive but no tachometer on any Series Land Rover)
Thanks Richard

Re: 236 v 237 Engines
If yours is FFR then 237 engine is appropriate and yes the only difference is the compression ratio

Re: 236 v 237 Engines
I've never seen a C40T dynamo fitted to any Land Rover and my LWT on had a standard C40 when I got it. Mind you after 50 years, anything is possible! Has anybody got any detail which confirms that they were actually fitted as original equipment? I'm wondering if the parts book was written at a time when they planned to use the Tacho function, but then in production, perhaps it was deleted and back to a standard C40 as that was all that was required.
Re: 236 v 237 Engines
237 engines were FFR and 8.1 but were intended to be used on two Rover 1 FFR contracts only.
It should be remembered that engines were intended to be interchangeable (to a certain degree) between Rovers 1, 10 and 11. Indeed the part number for the above engine, is also listed for various Rover 11 contracts.
The Rover 10, 11 parts list also has C40T as being used along with C40. But I have never come across any engines with one fitted.
Also of note is that the tachometer parts whilst shown in the parts list with the ref numbers, these are not then listed as a demandable item.
The other indictor is that in the Rover 1 UHB (both editions) it shows the dynamo lubrication point (no tacho).
I think the only real way to be definite is to have a look at the relevant POWER EMER for Land Rover to see which dynamo is listed for each LR part number. The only GS one I have lists 22756 as a C40-2!

Yes this is one of those odd things, no idea why it states this in the parts list, all the C40s I have seen on military engines have had standard C40. However I have also seen C40T marked ones with standard ends (non tachometer).C40T Dynamo specified rather than the standard C40?
