I went with what was on the old tub, assuming it was correct for the s3, going to make up some spacers, the mounts aren’t the same as the donors so will cobble something up.

Last bits ( other than wheels) painted today, worked out the best route for the main battery cable which is very much like a defender v8 ( clipped to bell housing), fuel pump is now mounted behind the handbrake lever ( cheers AR4412)
Seat belt mounts now fitted, fuel tank installed for good, just waiting on the paint to dry before fitting the last bits of the tub and tweaking a few bits due to thicker Ali and a reinforcing plate at the front of the upper sides.

Busy afternoon today and yesterday, air rivet gun is saving a lot of time!
Both rear upper sides fitted, drivers side bolted up for good ( unless I do the strip down in the summer) passenger side is nearly done, just waiting for the door latch bracket paint to dry, then bolt it on for good.
Trial hung the drivers door, bulkhead needs to go back a bit, but the passenger side I Hope is now as far forward as it can go thanks to the exhaust manifold so hopefully will be near enough going by the tape measure!
Passenger side is 5mm closer to the tub than the drivers so should be about right.
Need to order some bolts for the hinge to the door then I can make a start getting it lined up.
Top tailgate fits, got to make a bracket for one chain and order the rings for the hinge chain.

Steel fuel pipe has arrived, just waiting on the pump elbows so I can sort the fuel line, not sure the best route yet tho.
Will try and get power to the electrics hopefully tomorrow so I can then fit the arch tool box and the wiring cover, fingers crossed some lights!

Coming along lol

Cheers

Busy day today, finished the near side upper tub and started getting ready to move the bulkhead about.

I noticed the steering box was very notchy when I was taking the ltw apart so stripped it all off today which will make moving the bulkhead about easier, not keen on loads of money for a new one I thought I’d look at the donors column and box, nice and smooth, as I was cleaning it it was pouring water out of the steering lock hole :o so not just a change of oil but a flush needed.
Cleaned up, flushed (loads of lumps of black stuff and water) a coat or 2 of paint and ready to refit, will flush it again after doing some miles.
Just waiting on some bolts and a few other bits then I can hang the doors and start getting the bulkhead bolted back up.

Cheers

Well, the spraying looks good - and particularly as you are using gloss black as per the original. The temptation is always to use satin, but that only reflects how it came to look after years of use. The black bits on Land Rovers were gloss. (Can't speak for modern ones). Quite why water gets in everywhere, though, I don't know. But it's blinking difficult to trace. I have a leak in my D2. I have had the headlining out and carefully sealed every seam and orifice I could find. result? No change - still leaks! But... not every day. The leak seems to bear no relationship to the amount of rain we have. Some days it pours out of the seat belt mounts and the interior mirror, other days nothing! That's Land Rovers. Mind you, Freda's Freelander leaks as well and I've had that apart. That's La... oh, I said that bit! :D

Think the water got in the column through the steering lock hole, donor was probably 20 years plus in a hedge partially stripped. Fingers crossed with some fresh oil it will be ok, will rebuild the other one as it’s a genuine replacement but abused before my ownership.
I’ve got a random leak on my 90, water gets in but only facing up hill, not when driven or parked facing down🙄
110 leaks like a sieve 😂
Freelander is as dry as a bone😳
Amazing where / what it gets into tho.

Cheers

Nice to see your project is moving on well, even though you are at one of my least favourite jobs of getting everything to line up correctly. I guess they were never perfect so the odd few mm here and there won’t be noticed.

I must say I was very jealous to hear you have a air riveter. 👍🏻
Thanks

Stu

Not looking forward to lining it all up as I know the chassis isn’t that straight and wasn’t made right years ago, could be a fun few hours😂 Long as I can get it close I’ll be happy, will be better than it was hopefully

Air riveter is possibly the thing ive ever bought, saves so much time, knackered hands and occasional scratched paint!

Got on well today, until I dropped the seat box in an trialed up the sill on the off side, strangely not touching the front edge of the seat box, out with a tape again.....
Bulkhead on near side and on the donor ( both sides) sits 660mm in height off the outrigger, off side is 8mm too low😳🤬 wondering who made the chassis, they need a kicking!

Sorted the fuel line, cleaned up the change over tap with new gasket ordered, near side front floor will be a doddle as all the holes line up, few other bits done.

First of the 2 stickers it’s getting fitted.
Going to play musical cars tomorrow and get the wheels and tyres swapped with 89 110 then get them painted as I think the modulars stick out a little too far😂

Going to text my welder friend and see if he is free for an hour lol.

Hi all
Hoping to get the (more) welding done in the next few days, then try and get it back together 🙄
Dragged it out into the sun so I could sweep the floor and have a tidy up, really looking forward to getting mire panels on!

Cheers

Not much progress in the last few days, got a lot going on plus waiting for the outrigger to be tweaked, tinkering.

Found some genuine bonnet rear strip in a bag on the shelf that I forgot I had which is a bonus, got to wait on the bulkhead before fitting the wings so I can fit it right.

Have cleaned up the tank change over switch, changed the gasket so waiting on one new switch ( only 1 tank for the moment) that will let me wire and plumb it all in.
Does anyone know ( or have ) the length and union size for the second tank? Want to run the plumbing then wait till funds are good to get a second tank in.

New galv vent panel has arrived, looks very good so far, have swapped the modulars onto the 300 110 ( looks so much better) so I can paint the standard wheels once it cools a little.

Photo of an over heated cocker spaniel too😂 Garage faces south so not pleasant the last day or 2!

Cheers
