This is what I have done...brake pipe rubber and red tape to stop pipe rubbing against tank although my FFR doesn’t have my mod ;-)

I think your solution is the same as Land Rover's. I have rubbers on my fuel pipes where they cross the edge of the tank. They are also red, as it happens.

Your photo of the door rubbers reminds me that I bought a pair of them for the bonnet - according to one of the IPCs they should be fitted one either side to stop the bonnet rubbing against the wing top. But, there are no holes along the bonnet edge that could find which would take them and I haven't seen them fitted to anyone else's. Has anyone else?

Thanks for the info Fred - great stuff.

Today was slow going, straightening, repairing and stripping the tub of the remaining bitumastic I thought I had already conquered. Still a bit to go in the morning, but I’m out of white spirit so I’ll have to pop out to get some more.

Hopefully tomorrow I can get it in primer,

All the best,

Andy

Hello,

It is a beautiful work of reconstruction, I am impressed; bravo and good luck for the rest of your work.

"Your photo of the door rubbers reminds me that I bought a pair of them for the bonnet - according to one of the IPCs they should be fitted one either side to stop the bonnet rubbing against the wing top. Exactly the same: The rubber pads exist but not the location which is dedicated on the engine hood. I think that the strap on the rad-panel plays a preponderant role as well as the number of rubber pads fixing this same rad-panel to the front cross member of the chassis, the whole adjusting the parallelism between the horizontal plane of the wings and the hood .

Have a nice week end.

Well, that’s torn it. Scraping out the one original u-channel of the tub to remove some underseal, I found that the area around the seatbelt bolt hole is made of Swiss cheese. Why oh why didn’t I just replace both channels!

Severely disheartened with it all, I have resisted the urge to grab a branch and basil fawlty the hell out of the tub, and have put it away for the time being. I’ll look up a mobile welder in the week and see how much this little set back is going to..er...set me back.

Happy Father’s Day to my fellow dads!

Grr.

Aaarrrrgggh!

I feel your pain mate. I still need to repair my tub from when the wind broke it free from it's moorings and smashed it back and forth in the garden. I have got as far as straightening it out, clamping it up and preparing it for welding, I just need to convert the MIG over to an aluminium set up and get on with it.

These things are sent to try us brother, keep the faith.

Thanks matey - I just need a few days off to lick my wounds and I’ll be back on it.

Besides, the sun’s out again - drinks in the garden beckoning..

Sorry to hear that. Really frustrating. Must be a Land Rover. Stick at it, you'll get there and, when you do it will be a vision of loveliness and you'll not remember all the misery you went through to get there. (Like childbirth (so I'm told!)

Hiya Fred! :D ,

In MJC's book there is a reference to bonnet seals. EMER Q 027/13, Mod No 10 dated Feb 82, Bonnet seals to prevent water in air cleaner. Now whether this relates to all Series vehicles, just 88/109, or just Lightweight, I am unsure. But, the wing top is about level with the air cleaner intakes on a standard Series, but obviously a lot lower on a Lightweight, so pooled water/run-off is less likely to be a problem on the Lightweight.

The only reference to a bonnet rubber I could find for the Series was in the Supplimentary Parts List, which shows them fitted to Swiss vehicles as part of a set of bits to comply with noise regulations.

I wonder if these were the items that were fitted under the modification instructions?

I wish I had a list of all the Series Modifications. (I knew I should have stolen a set years ago.)
