On second thoughts, if everything that is listed as new, came out of a ****part blue box, then the next owner may spend a lot of money re-replacing everything.

I've always tried to be open-minded about the blue boxes, reasoning that, if it weren't for them, some parts for Land Rovers would be completely unobtainable. But, as I have progressed through my rebuild, I have come across problems with their products not fitting time and time again. Another one this morning - a simple thing, the rubber ring round the neck of the oil filter. Would it go on? Would it heck. Luckily, I had another one from a different supplier, fitted in the groove straight away and that was the end of it. Really annoying. Same with the "T" seals for the rear crankshaft - no use at all - spent an afternoon trying to get them into place. Went to Turners, got theirs, job done in 10 minutes! Same with brake shes - Blue Box - wouldn't even fit inside the drum. Mintex? Straight in without any effort. The thing is to be choosy, but, you can't be unless you specify. I have bought a lot of parts from Craddocks and, all too often, they are Britpart. But, Are we better with NOS when the NOS may be 40+ years old? Perhaps not if it is rubber. Ah well, soldier on!

I totally agree Fred.

Sometimes out of necessity we may have to use Britpart.

At least they are an option, which is better than none.

NOS is not the holy grail either as they command massive prices most often or not and as you say, if the part is or has rubber / perishable parts then they may be shot too.

Its not easy. I like the idea of pegasus parts who try to develop solutions where parts become unobtainable. Pity Britpart didn't take feedback so they could retain what works (I did hear their fuel tanks were OK) and redevelop what doesn't. If they were up for that I think the MV and Series crowd would all step forward to help them be successful as its in the interest of all of us.

Oh Lord! And here's me on another post having just said we avoid controversial subjects! Now we have sex-changing Land Rovers. All machines are feminine, surely?

Landrovers must be female, they drain your wallet, and complain hugely over little things but often soldier on through bigger more major problems and often require lots of sweet talking to get them going, I'm going to carefully avoid saying anything about looking good topless as that would be crass and could be seen as sexist and would be far too controversial! Especially if my other half happens to read this page.
