I think I know which coiler you mean. I like it, its its own right it looks like some sort of post apocalypse cobbled together survivor's vehicle. I must agree with Sid on one point though - there is a huge gulf between someone doing that for fun, and the vehicles on the club stand. The purpose of this club (at least as i have always thought) is to present lightweights in their military guise. The few shows I have been to -the vehicles on the stand have looked pretty original (certainly meeting Sid's 80% benchmark).

In fairness I don't think the owner's of the coiler would expect to be showing it on this club's stand. As to chopping a perfectly good series example to slam it...

This would be better off achieved by building a proper hot rod around a tubular frame chassis, with either aftermarket or 'homeless' original parts to give it the land rover look. Yes of course, you can do what you want to your own vehicle... but there's also a question as to what you should do. Numbers of series era landys out there for refurbishment will soon dwindle, and I do think there is a need to preserve what is left.

Each to their own opinion I'm sure though.

Not a bad answer there mate, I love the original landrovers and that slammed one isn't original, well done, well thought out and vastly over valued, the owner of the bobtail disco has no place on the stand frankly and the owner has less intrest in putting it on there.

I'm not sure which question is answered by 80% but it's not 1 as webber carbs, 7.50 tires, electric ignition and so on are all common. If it's question 2 I hope Neil won't read this as I'm sure his grey one is more than 80% modified. If it's number 3 that vehicles should be 80% original specifications for a half ton, Rob we need to look at yours to see if it's OK on the stand, Hibbo no more bikes on the stand please, Gordon you can't bring the 110 unless it's off in the car park Sid I'm afraid you can only bring the lightweight!

As I type this it's a little tongue in cheek, but some comments can come across elitist. I KNOW THAT WASN'T INTENDED but not everyone knows the people on here and frankly as a club we pride ourselves on our inclusive and friendly nature.

I don't make up the rules - Gordon 'IRON FIST' Bennet does - but if I did, I'd let 101's in because:

1) I love them

and

2) The are airportable, which I think means they get to come in as the lightweight's big brother. Everybody needs a bigger, dumber, more intimidating brother don't they? This is why when I get a 101 I will call it 'Mongo'. As in "Mongo KILL!!"

Graham can have his bikes because they are the closest we get to a recce vehicle while Neil's is still 'regrouping' (Hiya Neil mate ), and because he gave me a Jerry can at W&P (cheers Graham)

If it's question 2 I hope Neil won't read this as I'm sure his grey one is more than 80% modified.

I will have everyone know that the longtitudinal steering rod and the associated levers, radiator panel, windscreen frame, door channels, canopy frame, and most of the bulkhead can chase their heritage back to when I bought the vehicle. Unless your from the DVLA and reading this, and then the chassis is original, just modified in certain areas to suit the suspension.

In fact, thinking about it, most of the original 1970's parts are in the shed, or crumbled away years ago. Most of what you see on the vehicle is aluminium that has been bent or folded to resemble a lightweight's shape.

About the only time it has been on the club stand is when I have been collecting weapons at the end of the day, as I feel it has no place amongst original examples of the marque.

Ok..I'll try and steer this back to topic...as. Member of the dinosaur classic everything posse...I love all classic,vintage cars trucks bikes toys guitars clothes etc and would prefer it if things could stay original but as we all know...they can't..I've belonged to many clubs over the years including classic mini clubs...the younger member ps had a whale of a time in they're fab custom minis...and the seniors revelled in unfettered originality of they're particular examples.....we can't go down the purist route in this club coz it's nor what we're about.?...it was merely a short rant in reflection to the original post.
Some things should be left be.....and Series one Landy's are one of them....
P.s. Don't tell anyone but...I've got repro gripper hands on my action men.
