Are you going to try the Frost 'spray on' passive paint or go for a 'chemical' solution? Mo pun intended!

The only thing with the chemical kits is the passivating solutions are seriously hazardous. The chromates are carcinogenic and there's also hydrofluoric acid in there. As many of you will no doubt know, get the latter on yourself and you probably won't live long enough to worry about the fumes giving you cancer! Had I realised it was so dangerous I wouldn't have bought it, can't believe you can just buy it off ebay.

I've kept the zinc electrolyte but have got rid of the passivate - cost about 4x the original purchase price of the kit to have it collected and disposed of!

I like the look of that rust remover from frosts - i could with dipping the range rover in a vat of it .

Thanks mate, as I said it's a bit random, just whatever I picked up next.

It would cost a fair bit to buy enough rust remover to dunk a Rangie in. May save a lot of effort de-rusting though.

Thanks for the heads up. As I don't fancy going man-down I think I'll stick with the rattle-can cad system spray if I do decide to give the parts a yellowy look.

I got a load of small parts plated at a place near me (S & T Electroplate), there's some photo's in my thread somewhere. It saved a lot of faffing (and nasty chemicals).

There maybe somewhere local to you?

Likewise with me for the Sankey, there's a small platers just up the road from where I work in Nottingham and the guy knows what I'm doing and is really helpful, only charging between £2-£5 a time, ok the quantities are not great but for example a few weeks ago took him 30 odd nuts to be plated and he had to string them all together on wire etc and only charged £3. Cannot fault and it saves having to deal with some pretty nasty stuff yourself. There's plenty of these people about.

Bob, for that sort of money it's not worth even trying diy. To be fair my results were mixed and not as good as a professional but worth a go as an experiment.
