Smiths heater fan not working

Post by Foxy1 » Thu Nov 08, 2018 4:57 pm

Hello, my smiths heater fan has stoped working. It has power getting to it, but wont spin.
Any ideas ? How much for a new motor, how easy to replace etc.

Thanks - A

Hi Ade, been a while mate, where you been?
Heater is a bit fiddly to remove, especially the bloody hoses!
The motor isn't that hard to remove providing the fan comes off!!
I think motors are rare, expensive and hard to get new but I could be wrong!
You will have to remove the heater to get at the motor,it might have stuck and free up with a spin of the fan.
Pull the heater out and see if you can find the fault before you go any further.
Might have a usable motor in a series 2A I'm breaking but it's still fitted in the vehicle,in a field,dark,cold,wet Etc Etc. :D .
See what's wrong with yours first!

12v or 24v? 12v are readily available and reasonably priced. 24v are available and expensive.

Hiya Rod :D
£100 for 12v, Smiths or Clayton's, £200+ for 24v Smiths, genuine, are the going rates.
Cheers

Hello Rod, you were missed you at W&P. I think you were holidaying in Cyprus.
Yearp 12v job, had front off heater and fan spins ok.
Had some building work done so landy was blocked in garage for few months
Peterborough Pissed me off a few years back when they restricted the club down to 1.5 vehicles, even though we put on the best display etc - Pure greed.
Any how I hope your well ?

Hiya Ade,yeah I was in Cyprus for W&P, the wife couldn't get any other holiday dates from work, couldn't be helped :(
Its a shame about the limited numbers at Peterborough, not sure if I will attend that one again!
Got a gathering at Stoneleigh in Feb should you want to catch up with us all! 8-) (shows, meetings and gatherings section).
Hope your attending Overlord or Capel next year!!! :!
Clive or Bob might be able to advise on testing your motor mate,I'm crap with electrickery so can't help you matey.
Catch up some when.... :!

I am a novice at all of this , but have taken apart my 12v Smiths heater. If it is totally knackered it will be easy to see. Might be as simple as new bushes.Take more photos than you think you need! Good Luck Mick

I did pick up a 24 volt motor on the evil bay for £60 plus p&p, just a matter of keeping your eyes open.

There were also 2 x 12 volt complete heaters at Newbury, untested, not sure what they were going for
