If your sign came from the Swindon area, wonder if it was surplus from when the RAF Wroughton base was demolished and replaced with a housing estate and Hotel? Probably impossible to ever find out though.
Thanks Jon,

Maybe when i get it, there wll be some tell-tale signs where it came from.

The letters at the bottom have been removed, but you can see where it said 'Area is patrolled by Armed Guards'.

Looking forward to it being delivered :P

There is another sign on eBay at the moment which i liked 'Keep Clear Unexploded Bomb'.

Could it be American? As in, US military based in the UK? I know they have base commanders, but I can't think of any British military examples of the use of base commanders. And the wording just has an American feel about it!

Hi Fred,

It could be, will look at a few old pics. 'Base Commander' does sound a bit SPAM.

Hi,

The sign arrived today, it's a corker!

I'll post a pic of it in situ, when i've finished sorting out the wall it will be hung on.

Gordon

Brize Norton was a US airbase for a while. Not that far from Swindon
