Age of vehicle prototype

Post by rustythings » Fri Oct 19, 2018 7:53 pm

I have a 1866 lightweight but it says they were manufactured from 1968
Does anyone know if this could be a prototype?

Is it a delorean? :D

Joking aside the prototypes were I think 1966, and I would imagine pre-prods in 67. Prototypes had little protective peaks over the front side / indicator lights, and four mounting points for the bonnet spare wheel straps. Also some differences on the door hinges from memory. Do you have photos we can oggle?

Yes photos would be helpful, as would its military registration/VRN however im afraid to say, statisticallykely to be a standard chassis with a lightweight body built into it.

There was a prototype in Cornwall for sale about 15 years ago. Was bronze green and had been dressed up with series 3 wings, a defender grill and CSW hardtop, civilian s3 dash and all the other 1980s mods these seemed to attract. It had paperwork from LR to prove it was one of the prototypes from 66.
