I'm still trying to work out how a bug eyed 2a owner can say they prefer the DPM para smock to the Denison???

I do for (from the gut more than reasoning) think this is likely to be date from between 82 to 84 but without a view of a nicely preserved label or a fondle of the flap and a couple of other key areas I can't confirm it.

After much swatting I have come to the conclusion that this garment IS indeed from very early 80's..just prior to 84 pattern.
The dpm pattern itself although slightly different from p85 is quite far from p68. Still happy and proud to adorn it for the show season as well as occasionally the Denison.

Hmm - to Shaun's point though all personal preferences aside I will need a 68 pattern. Time to go shopping at the next show then..

Do you know what size you want? I may have or know of one, or at the very least can keep an eye open for you.

Early 70s Cheshire Regiment, whoever would have had access to a lightweight.

One of my Grandads was in the Cheshires, albeit in 30s and 40s so it’s kind of a (later period) homage to him. My other grandad was Royal Horse Artillery so I suppose that’s an option too, but I grew up in Cheshire so that gets first choice.

Well, 72-75 they were in Weeton Barracks, Preston as part of 24 Bde, with a number of tours in NI with 39 Bde (that's Belfast). They then went off to BAOR until 1979 when they came back to Tidworth and were in 8 Bde/8 Field Force.

As yours is a 2A, I'd go for the period they were in Weeton Barracks. That also means you can apply 24 Bde markings on Bronze Green, whereas the later period in UK you'd be in to NATO green/black cam with no proper markings.

As for dress, you can get away with a simple pair of denim trousers, boots DMS and puttees, a KF shirt and a HD pullover. Of course, if you fancy some promotion, the Cheshires' WOs and officers had a nice line in rust-coloured pullovers which were rather fetching as were their side caps!

Thanks Fred, that’s another recruit for the ‘help Andy shop at W&P’ gang. You’ll have to compete with Sid though... he’s like my own personal Gok Wan.

Out of interest what’s the sizing of theses early ones? Are they sized the old way(size 1, size 2 etc) or are they sized the modern way ( 170/96 etc) ?

Cheers!
