Has anyone got one of these spare..brake expander

Post by Sidders101 » Sun Apr 30, 2017 9:00 am

As above guys..one of the threaded dowels has snapped...the dowel is steel and the expander body is aluminium so not easy to repair...anyone got one they can sell me..?.or any ideas an repair...I could drill out the old dowel..tap a thread and use a bolt to reattach but I didn't want to mess about as this is a brake item and needs to be right.

Just for the reference, all the parts, including casing are available for these from;
https://www.smallfordspares.co.uk/
In the design spec Sankey NT'S utilised readily available commercial Ford expanders and adjusters from the 40's and 50's for their mechanical brake systems.
I also know where to get complete original NOS units from but they are expensive as you have said.

Shackle bushes were/are integral to the unit, as are the bushes to the springs, they are/were not available as separate items but I may be wrong. You have to buy the complete unit to best of my knowledge. All the springs and shackle hangers I have seen come complete with bushes. I have never come across separate bushes but I'm sure they are out there. Again, the spring units I think may possibly be Ford so look where indicated.
