Re: Steering relay oil change

Thanks all. Sidders, I did that/followed your earlier advice on that so thank you - managed to remove the front and rear bolts and tried filling through the front but from what I can see it looks air locked at that front hole (I get a pool of fresh oil over it). I’ll try Chipbury’s advice of heating...

Steering relay oil change

Oh my goodness, was this procedure invented purely to test human endurance and patience and discover the breaking point?? Or just to make me feel stupid? It’s like trying to do brain surgery through a letter box. It’s the one of the 9 (?) oil changes that beat me in my first year of ownership so I h...

Re: Replacing split grommet on prop shaft

Success :D Interesting to see how long it lasts... Tackled the task of an oil change on the steering relay for the first time...blimey...working on it in situ is like performing brain surgery through a letter box. I was rewarded with an egg cup full of black tar from the drain (seriously, about 20ml...

Re: Replacing split grommet on prop shaft

Thanks guys...didn’t realise I’d need to split the shaft after dropping it down at one end...hoped the grommet would fit over the end. Will have a go this weekend :D

Replacing split grommet on prop shaft

When changing the gearbox oil at the weekend I noticed the rubber grommet on the front prop shaft was totally split. To replace it, is it just a case of removing the 4 bolts from the front flange and dropping the front of the shaft down to slide on the new grommet? Anything to be wary of? Thanks as ...

Re: Refurb(ish) - recommendations

Hi Kim, I can fully recommend DLR In Dunsfold. It’s not exactly local for you but also not a million miles away either, especially if they kept it and did whatever you wanted in one go. Darryl at DLR has been extremely helpful in my quest to get my recently acquired S3 shipshape. I’ve had a go at mo...

Re: Help Please!!

All good at the moment (touch wood). Little use recently due to work but hope to get out and about more in the coming months. In the year or so that I’ve had it, it’s pretty much functionally sorted which was always all I aimed for - new tub floor and cross members, exhaust, doors, tanks, starter mo...
